How the atmosphere evolved, greenhouse gases, climate change, pollutants, carbon footprint and peer review

The short version

Greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation. Extra CO₂ and methane from human activity enhance the greenhouse effect. Burning fuels also makes CO, SO₂, NOₓ and particulates.

Grade 2–3: Volcanoes made an air full of carbon dioxide. Green plants added oxygen. Now it is mostly nitrogen and oxygen.

Grade 5–6: I can quote about 80% N2 and 20% O2 and I know oceans formed when steam condensed.

Grade 9: Oxygen did not appear instantly. Nitrogen is the big pie-chart slice. If they ask for evidence, we cannot time-travel — rocks, fossils, other planets.
