How the atmosphere evolved, greenhouse gases, climate change, pollutants, carbon footprint and peer review
The short version
Greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation. Extra CO₂ and methane from human activity enhance the greenhouse effect. Burning fuels also makes CO, SO₂, NOₓ and particulates.

Common mistakes
- Oxygen did not appear instantly. The change took a very long time. Do not say electrolysis of the oceans made the oxygen.
- The greenhouse effect is not the ozone hole. Ozone is a different issue (UV). Do not mix them.
- Do not write that the Earth will definitely end in 10 years. Stick to effects named in the specification. A cold week does not disprove a warming trend.
- Nitrogen oxides come from the air, not from nitrogen impurities in petrol. High temperature is the cause. Converters do not remove CO2.
