Key idea
A memory of standing by a pond with a lover. Leaves, ash, grey. A smile like a dead thing. The sun was white and “God-curst”. The poem returns to the same pond: circular bitterness. Love taught a lesson that stained later loves.

- “The poet uses alliteration which is effective” is a Grade 2 sentence. Effective how? On whom? Why this sound here?
- Two mini-essays stapled together is not comparison. The marker should see both titles in most paragraphs.
