Common mistakes
- A plot dump from the opening battle to Malcolm’s speech, with no question word, is a Grade 2–3 answer wearing a lot of ink. Underline the question. Only tell the story that proves it. And never write “Priestley uses Sheila” — this is Shakespeare, not An Inspector Calls.
- Do not call her “pure evil” and stop. The sleepwalking scene is Shakespeare arguing that the will of Act 1 cannot hold. Also: she does not kill Duncan with her own hands — she is method, not the only murderer.
- If the question is guilt or kingship, do not paste your memorised ambition essay. Use ambition only when it proves the question word.
- A theme dump that ignores the question fails AO1 no matter how many quotations you own.
