Common mistakes
- Aluminium and zinc sit next to the block but are not treated as typical transition metals on this course. Do not dump Group 1 water-fizz stories as if they were Fe / Cu chemistry.
- A catalyst is not used up. Do not write that it is a reactant that gets remade later unless you are describing a mechanism AQA does not ask for. Colourless Group 1 salts are the contrast, not the exception that kills the rule.
- Do not swap the catalyst examples. Nickel is hydrogenation, not Haber. Iron is Haber, not household wiring. Copper is wiring, not the Haber catalyst.
- CO2 is not a nanoparticle. Nanoparticles are clusters of atoms in the 1-100 nm range, not individual small molecules.
